Back in 2000, three college students began their own web design company, working out of college apartments at the University of Northern Iowa.
The dot-com bubble was just bursting. Jobs were hard to find at the time, but they managed to land valuable clients like Hy-Vee and Bridgestone/Firestone in 2003, gaining momentum for growth.
Marc Reifenrath, Adam Lewis and Cory Schmidt had founded Spinutech. In 2003, they moved their first official headquarters to a loft on Cedar Falls’ Main Street. Each of these young men bringing their own unique skill set to the business that together make synergy for Spinutech.
From those humble beginnings, Spinutech has established itself as a leading provider in digital marketing, web design and content management, working with clients in all 50 states and eight countries.
The three entrepreneurs built their own content management system in a time when many companies had a full-time IT person on staff to update their websites. Spinutech offered increased efficiency, pushing its product as a way to allow anyone to update a company’s website, freeing up resources to be utilized in other ways that were beneficial to clients.
By 2005, they moved into their current Cedar Falls office at 201 Washington St. Spinutech opened a second office in Des Moines in 2006 and its list of clients included John Deere, the Des Moines International Airport, Whole Foods, Electrolux and others.
In 2013, the company was named a finalist in the Technology Association of Iowa’s eighth annual Prometheus Awards, perhaps the most prestigious recognition for Iowa’s technology industry, recognizing the innovation of Iowa’s high-tech industry.
By the end of last year, Spinutech opened its third office, targeting the Chicago market and adding more positions across their three offices.
In addition to opening the new Chicago-area office, Spinutech added Pella Windows and Doors and the Iowa Clinic as clients, as well as multiple Delta Dental associations.
Today, the Spinutech staff is up to nearly 50 people. The company boasts a diversified clientele, reaching across the industries of healthcare, manufacturing, banking, insurance, associations, nonprofits and franchise/dealer networks. This trio of young businessmen is proud of the fact that for the first 10 years in the business they had zero turnover, a nearly unheard of statistic for any new business. this is attributed to the culture they have created at Spinutech, according to Todd Reifenrath, a partner at Spinutech, they have made company culture a priority and the business follows, a very atypical philosophy in today’s world.
Marc Reifenrath, Adam Lewis and Cory Schmidt possess the entrepreneurial spirit that has culminated in one of the best business start-up stories to come out of the Cedar Valley during the past couple of decades.
Their business vision, combined with the passion, persistence and hard work to see it through, has resulted in impressive growth for their company, providing more jobs along the way.
Congratulations to Adam, Cory and Marc, on their success in building and growing Spinutech.
