Darin Beck has been in the food and beverage industry for 22 years at the ownership level. He has owned a number of nightclubs, lounges and restaurants throughout the state over the years, but has focused on the Cedar Valley since moving to the area in 1986. In recent years, Darin has expanded his business holdings into other industries as well.
As sole owner and CEO of Barmuda Corp., Darin’s Cedar Falls-based food and beverage management company, he currently owns and operates Beck’s Sports Grill, Jokers Comedy Club, Bourbon Street Restaurant, Voodoo Lounge, Coconuts Beach Club, and Giovanni’s Pizzeria Pub.
In 2003, Darin purchased Ireland Technologies, an Apple / PC retail store and service center in Cedar Falls. He has since given the store a new name and it is now known as “iTech, Apple Store and More.” The new store focuses on Apple and HP products and offers world-class service on almost all makes and models of computers. The new iTech works with businesses and home users alike.
Darin is also a founding partner in Phantom EFX and Genesis Digital Studios. Based in Cedar Falls, Phantom is now one of the world’s leading developers of gaming software for the home computer. Phantom EFX is also working with various slot machine makers around the world and is currently developing new games that will hit the casino floors as early 2005. Phantom EFX has fast become the leading software developer in the casino genre of PC games.
Also based in Cedar Falls, Darin founded TriQuest Ventures LLC with two other partners in 2003. TriQuest owns and operates two Cenex Ampride convenience stores in Cedar Falls and Mason City.
Darin’s various companies employ around 300 people throughout the Cedar Valley. Darin is Chairman of Government Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Board for the Iowa Restaurant Association. He also chaired the Finance and Administration Committee at St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish in Cedar Falls for 3 years and is now a board member for the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is very active throughout the community of Waterloo and Cedar Falls and is deeply interested in the economic development of the Cedar Valley and Iowa as a whole. Darin was the recipient of the “Innovative Investor of the Year Award” given by the City of Cedar Falls and the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce in 2004 and has received multiple state and national awards within the food and beverage industry as well.
Darin is married to Cathy who owns and operates Alter Ego Salon in Waterloo. They married in 1987 and together they have two children, Travis who is 16 and an avid guitar player, and Brittany who is 10 and a competitive swimmer and piano player. Darin and Cathy consider the Cedar Valley home and intend to stay here for many years to come.
