Born on a farm near Belle Plaine, Iowa, Henry B. Tippie planned to follow the family tradition of farming until he enlisted in the Army Air Force during WWII and was exposed to varied backgrounds of business professions. Thanks to the GI Bill, Henry attended the University of Iowa and enrolled in the accounting program. With Tippie’s straightforward approach and attention to detail, he completed his BSC in 24 consecutive months. This was an early example that illustrated his drive and ambition to become the corporate executive and entrepreneur of successful enterprises such as Tippie Services, Inc., Rollins, Inc., and Dover Motorsports, Inc., just to name a few. Tippie is one of the very few people involved with the initial listing of a publicly owned company in each of five decades on the NYSE with the first commencing in the 1960’s.
He is the recipient of numerous well-deserved honors including the prestigious Horatio Alger award. Always remembering his roots in rural Iowa, Tippie has financially supported the success of many students giving them the opportunity to continue their education as well as providing needed assistance to the community of Belle Plaine, Kirkwood Community College, and the University of Iowa.
