Jamie Wilson grew up in Cedar Falls and then went on to pursue a degree in Sociology at the University of Iowa. In 1992, just two short weeks after college graduation, he married his “high school sweetheart” Nikki. Nikki’s financial background in banking landed them in Rochester, Minnesota, for the next three years. While she was busy beginning her career, Jamie was searching for what he was going to do in his post-college life. His early work experiences in high school and through college were with Martin Brothers, Scheels Sports, and the University of Iowa Athletic Department. These experiences led him to choose a career field in restaurant supply distribution, working for a small dealership called Rochester Restaurant Supply. It was there that he learned a lot about the restaurant equipment industry. He had no idea at the time that it would lead him to starting up his own successful business here in the Cedar Valley.
During a Christmas conversation in 1995, Jamie and his brother Jeff talked about starting a business, which led Jamie and Nikki back to Cedar Falls. With a solid business plan in place by April 1996, Wilson Restaurant Supply was a reality. Jamie attributes his ability to start Wilson Restaurant Supply, and to not worry about personal financial issues, to his wife’s solid career. While he relied on her to be the sole bread winner, she also managed to have two children, a son Troy in 1997, and a daughter Kayla in 1998. Jamie attributes his success to the tremendous support he has received from family, friends, neighbors, and the great people in this community.
Wilson Restaurant Supply currently employs 14 people and generated $4 million in sales in 2008. They have been honored as Dealer of the Year by Excell Food Equipment Dealer Network in 2005 and 2008. In 2007, Excell also awarded them with the “Trail Blazer Award” which recognizes their annual growth, support, and leadership within the Dealer Network. Wilson Restaurant Supply was also recognized in the top 10 for volume sales for 7 years.
Jamie has a history of building long-lasting relationships with people in his community. During Jamie’s childhood years in Cedar Falls, he grew up with a large group of friends that he is proud to have kept very close ties with. He is also blessed to have his mom, dad, brother, and sister all within 30 miles of his front door. In addition to family and friends surrounding him, he has added a customer base of people that he will maintain relationships with long after he has retired from the business world.
