Upon close observation, it is easy to see that Tim Guenther got his entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic, and tenacity from his parents. A quiet and confident man, Tim Guenther may seem unassuming to a passerby on the street, but this driven leader, founder and Chief Executive Officer has created one of the fastest growing private companies in America. Clickstop currently holds the record for being on the Corridor Business Journal’s (CBJ) Fastest Growing Companies list the most times, in addition to being a three-time recipient of the CBJ’s Coolest Places to work.
While attending UNI, Tim worked at a lumber company and then worked for a startup manufacturer in Cedar Falls. When that business closed three years later, he went into outside sales. Tim confidently took on this new endeavor and started to envision running his own business. With that dream in mind, Tim set out to blaze his own trail. By 2001, Tim independently represented three companies’ products under the name TBG.
Simultaneously, Clickstop, was conceived as a venture between Tim and a life-long friend, Ben Reckhemmer. At one point, Ben was living in Tim’s basement, working on a website, with their vision set on e-commerce.
Tim then expanded distribution to create his own brand by amping up search engine optimization and improving the website. In 2005, they incorporated and the first order for US Cargo Control went through on their website. Since then, US Cargo Control has become Clickstop’s #1 Brand. But even in the TBG Group days, Tim was always thinking ahead to the future, to the possibilities to grow the company. As Tim likes to say, “We’re not where we’re going.” “He leads by example. Tim will set a vision, and the people there (at Clickstop) don’t want to let Tim down.” said Pat Diegnan, President and CEO of Banker’s Trust, Cedar Rapids. Pride in his employees and generous investments in community are both extremely important to Tim and his wife, Nicole. Building the culture that develops his employees and encourages them to reach beyond their limits brings great satisfaction to Tim. “Tim brings out the best in people,” said Jim Mayhew, Clickstop’s Chief Culture Officer. “The mark of a great leader is how many leaders they create.”
Tim and his wife, Nicole has proudly started Clickstop Cares, a non-profit aspect of the company that provides assistance to local individuals and families in need of household items, food, and clothing. This employee-driven program allows Tim’s generous spirit and the corporate values of Clickstop to contribute to the local community and schools in meaningful ways.
Not wanting to emulate the challenges he has experienced in other companies he has worked for, Tim has a clear vision for Clickstop. Together with his team, Clickstop has developed Core Values that guide their company. Clickstop’s mission statement: “To create a business that is sustainable, enjoyable, and provides opportunity for those who seek it.” It’s not surprising that a company that started as a website with search engine optimization has evolved into a company that optimizes talent and corporate results. With the expansion of Clickstop’s business and the ongoing growth of Clickstop Cares, it is obvious that Tim Guenther is still that same forward-thinking man who never plans to stop improving. But it has always been about family for Tim: his wife, Nicole, and his two boys, Quinton and Alex, and now his Clickstop family.
