Become a Classroom Volunteer: Make a Lasting Impact with Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa
Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of local students? Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa (JAEI) is always seeking passionate, dedicated individuals to serve as classroom volunteers, and we need your help to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and financial innovators.
As a Junior Achievement volunteer, you’ll play a key role in helping students build critical life skills—skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Whether you have a background in finance, business, education, or simply a passion for teaching and mentoring, there’s a place for you in Junior Achievement’s mission to prepare young people for success in a global economy. Here’s why you should consider volunteering:
- Inspire the Next Generation of Leaders
Volunteering with Junior Achievement gives you the opportunity to make a direct impact on students' futures. Through hands-on activities, engaging lessons, and interactive discussions, you’ll help students explore important topics like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness. Your real-world experiences and insights will encourage students to think critically about their futures and inspire them to set ambitious goals for themselves.
By volunteering in a classroom, you’re showing students that success is within reach. You’re providing them with the knowledge, confidence, and motivation to pursue their dreams—whether that’s becoming a small business owner, a scientist, a teacher, or an engineer.
- Support Future Entrepreneurs and Innovators
Junior Achievement programs focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and career readiness—skills that are essential for success in today’s ever-changing world. When you volunteer, you’ll guide students through hands-on activities that help them develop practical, real-world skills.
For example, students in JA BizTown® Mobile run their own miniature city, taking on roles as CEOs, mayors, and employees, while learning about business operations, money management, and decision-making. In JA Finance Park® Mobile, students learn about budgeting, saving, and making smart financial choices. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of these exciting programs, helping students understand how to navigate the world of finance and business.
- Empower Youth to Make Informed Career Choices
The modern job market can be intimidating for young people, especially when they don’t have the right information to make informed career choices. Junior Achievement helps bridge that gap by offering students the chance to explore a variety of careers and industries. By volunteering, you can provide students with insights into different professions and the skills they need to succeed in those fields.
Your unique career path, whether it’s in healthcare, engineering, technology, marketing, or another field, offers valuable lessons for students to consider when planning their own futures. Sharing your story and career experiences could be the spark that encourages a student to pursue a particular path or inspire them to dream bigger than they thought possible.
- Flexible and Easy to Get Involved
One of the best things about volunteering with Junior Achievement is the flexibility. Whether you have a few hours a week or just a couple of hours to spare, there are volunteer opportunities that can fit into your schedule. In-school programs typically run for 5-8 sessions, while signature programs like JA BizTown® Mobile and JA Finance Park® Mobile require one full or half day of volunteering to help facilitate the experience.
You don’t need to be an expert in business or finance—Junior Achievement provides all the materials and training you’ll need to feel confident in the classroom. You’ll have access to pre-designed lesson plans, interactive activities, and a comprehensive curriculum, making it easy for anyone to get involved. Plus, you’ll never be alone! Volunteers work in pairs or teams, so you’ll have support every step of the way.
- Give Back to Your Community
There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you’re making a positive impact in your own community. As a Junior Achievement volunteer, you’ll be helping students from local schools gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Whether you’re volunteering in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, or a surrounding area, your time and energy will make a significant difference for students in Eastern Iowa.
You’ll also be joining a network of local professionals who share your passion for education and mentorship. Whether you’re interacting with fellow volunteers or collaborating with teachers, Junior Achievement offers a great way to connect with like-minded individuals who want to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
- No Experience Necessary
Junior Achievement is looking for volunteers from all walks of life. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting your career, there’s a place for you in our classrooms. You don’t need to be an expert in finance, business, or education—what matters most is your willingness to inspire and encourage students.
Junior Achievement provides all volunteers with training, support, and all the materials needed for a successful experience. You'll learn everything you need to know to deliver the lesson effectively and engage students in meaningful ways.
